New York adults over the age of 21 can now possess and use marijuana even in public under a legalisation bill signed today by Governor Andrew Cuomo, though legal sales of recreational-use cannabis won t start for an estimated 18 months until regulations are set.
Passed after several years of stalled efforts, the measure makes New York the 16th US state to legalise adult use of the drug, though South Dakota s measure is in legal limbo.
Jamshedpur: With fresh cases of Covid-19 rising in East Singhbhum, the administration has redeployed 25 incident commanders (ICs) in nine blocks to implement the revised guidelines effectively. Till Tuesday, the district had 264 active Covid cases.
Meanwhile, a team led by ADM (law and order) Nand Kishore Lal visited the government-run quarantine centre at Professional College in Sidhgora and asked the officials to re-activate the centre in a week.
From Thursday, the ICs along with health officials and local police stations will ensure people visiting public places are wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. In an order, deputy commissioner Suraj Kumar said, “People found violating Covid guidelines will be punished under relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act and Section 188 of the IPC.”
